| School of City Construction and Environmental Engineering
In order to fit with the needs of economic and social development, the SSPU School of City Construction and Environmental Engineering was founded in April 2002 based on the original Metallurgy program, Environmental Monitoring program and Chemical Engineering program, with the addition of some outstanding personnel with study abroad experience. In 2003, the school started to offer a diploma program of Environmental Monitoring and Improvement, specialized in Electronic Waste; in 2004, the school started to offer an undergraduate program Environmental Engineering, specialized in Electronic Waste Management and Treatment. Shanghai Second Polytechnic University is the first university who offers education programs related to Electronic Waste in China.
The school has undertaken several National Natural Science Foundation research projects, and several other research projects funded by the State Environmental Protection Agency, the Ministry of Information Industry and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. In the meantime, the school has organized academic exchange activities and developed cooperative relationships with some foreign universities at the United States, Sweden and Japan. The school is actively searching ways of enhancing the cooperation among industries, universities and research institutes, and has signed several cooperation agreements with some environmental protection companies. In June 2005, the school's fostering program ¡°Electronic Waste Utilization and Environmental Functional Materials¡± was listed in the Second Shanghai Key Discipline Construction Plan.
Along with the university¡¯s continuous development and the penetration of Recycling Economy, the school has attracted a group of highly qualified faculty members with domestic or foreign doctor's degrees, and has formed a strong teaching and research team with solid industrial practical experience. |
