The SSPU School of Computer & Information was founded in June 2002, through a merger of the former Department of Computer of SSPU and the former Department of Information Technology of Shanghai Donghu Vocational & Technical College. In 2003, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education as an exemplary vocational software technology institute of the State.
The college has a highly qualified teaching team including 64 full-time teacher among whom 5 are professors and 18 are associate professors, and enrolls more than 2,000 students. The school offers three undergraduate programs (Computer Science & Technology, Software Engineering, and Electronic Commerce) and five diploma programs (Computer Software Technology, Computer Network Technology, Information Security, Computer & Application, and Electronic Commerce); among which ¡°Computer & Application (Multi-media Technology)¡± is a experimental program of the National Teaching Reform, and ¡°Computer Software Technology¡± is a experimental program of the Shanghai Municipal Teaching Reform. The school possesses a National State-of-the-Arts course (Data Structure) and four Shanghai Municipal State-of-the-Arts courses (Data Structure, JSP Programming Design, Programming Design Fundamentals, and Database Technology and Application).
The college has three undergraduate majors such as computer science and technique, software engineering and electronic business and five senior vocational college majors such as computer software technique, computer network technique, security information, computer application and electronic business. Of them, Computer application (multimedia technique) and computer software technique is respective nation-level and Shanghai reformed education experiment unit. The college has a key course: the structure of data and four Shanghai excellent courses: the structure of data, JSP program design, the basis of program design and database technique and application.
The school has undertaken the National 863 Key Research Projects and other Shanghai Municipal Key Research Projects, and was awarded a second prize of Science & Technology Progress by the Ministry of Education, a second prize and a third prize of Science & Technology Progress by the Shanghai Municipal Government. The school has published more than 30 books, among which ¡°Practice and Exploration of Computer Subjects Construction of Tertiary Vocational Education based on Skills Cultivation¡± was awarded a second prize of National Outstanding Teaching Achievement, and a first prize of Shanghai Municipal Outstanding Teaching Achievement.
Persisting in cultivating application-oriented outstanding engineers and technicians with emphasis on students¡¯ practical skills training, the school has won a high reputation from the society by its consecutive high job placement rates (above 95%).
